In Memory of Professor Aidan Halligan

Research day

Dear Colleagues,

I am very saddened to tell you all that our 2014 Research Day Henderson Lecturer, Professor Aidan Halligan, died suddenly overnight on Sunday.  Many of you will remember the visionary talk he gave us last May on rediscovering leadership values.

Aidan and I graduated together from Trinity College, Dublin in 1984. He moved on from a very successful academic career in Obstetrics & Gynaecology at the University of Leicester, England,  to the position of Deputy Chief medical officer in the National Health Service for England. During this part of his career, he developed his interests in the importance of effective medical leadership and was instrumental in the formation of the NHS Staff College for Leadership Development.

More recently he was Director of Well North, a Public Health England initiative to improve the health of the underprivileged across the North of England and Chairman of Pathway, a charity that has developed health services for the homeless within the NHS.

Aidan will be missed by a great many people and our sympathies are extended to his family at this time.

Sincerely,

John Kingdom
