Dr. Farine received his medical degree at Tel-Aviv University and completed his residency in Obstetrics and Gynecology in Toronto in 1986. He finished his fellowship in Maternal/Fetal Medicine at Columbia University, New York in 1988 following which he was appointed as a Staff Perinatologist at Mount Sinai Hospital in Toronto. He became the Director of Maternal/Fetal Medicine at Mount Sinai Hospital in 1990 and the Head of Obstetrics at Mount Sinai Hospital in 1992. In 2004, he was appointed to be the Head of Maternal/Fetal Medicine at the University of Toronto. In 2010 he became an Honorary Professor at The University of Moscow and in 2016 Adjunct Professor at The Medical University of Vienna.

Dr. Farine has widely published with more than 180 peer-reviewed papers of which 9 received research awards. These included SPO and SMFM best paper awards, several best poster awards as well as awards from the Society for Gynecologic Investigation and the Society of Obstetricians and Gynecologists of Canada. He is the editor of four textbooks in Obstetrics and an author of many book chapters. 

Dr. Farine has also received numerous teaching awards. He was a member and the Head of The MFM Committee of the SOGC for 15 years and has founded the Canadian Society of Maternal/Fetal Medicine.
