Dr. Zhong-Cheng Luo is an Associate Scientist/Professor in perinatal and paediatric epidemiology in the Lunenfeld-Tanenbaum Research Institute, Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, Mount Sinai Hospital, and Institute of Health Policy, Management and Evaluation, University of Toronto. He completed a MD in China, a PhD in the University of Hong Kong, a postdoctoral fellowship in McGill university, and was an associate professor in the University of Montreal before joined the University of Toronto.

Dr Luo has been conducting birth cohort studies on gestational diabetes, adverse fetal growth (poor or excessive) to understand their causes, etiologic mechanisms, the impacts on postnatal metabolic health in the offspring and how to prevent such adverse developmental “programming” impacts. He has been working with Indigenous community partners in studies on the causes of poor maternal and infant health, and how to improve Indigenous maternal and infant health. Current research projects (CIHR-funded) include: 1) understanding early life origins of sex difference in insulin sensitivity; 2) towards a better understanding of high infant hospitalization rates in First Nations and Inuit. He has published over 110 research articles in international peer-reviewed journals.
