Dr. Seaward is Professor and Vice-Chair of Quality Improvement and Patient Safety in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology at the University of Toronto. He is a core member of the University of Toronto Centre for Patient Safety and is cross appointed to the Institute of Health Policy, Management and Evaluation at U. of T. Dr. Seaward also serves as an Associate Medical Director, Criticall, Ontario and is an executive member of the Southern Ontario Network. He also serves on the University of Toronto Decanal Promotion Committee. He is currently a council member of the Provincial Council of Maternal Child Health of Ontario (PCMCH) and is Co- Chair of the Maternal Newborn Committee of PCMCH. 

He was the Associate Obstetrician and Gynecologist in Chief at Mount Sinai Hospital and UHN as well as the Head of the Division of Quality Improvement and Patient Safety (OB/GYN) at Mount Sinai from 2014 -2017. From 2000 to 2014 he was the Medical Director of the Labor and Delivery Unit at Mount Sinai Hospital and Head of the Division of Obstetrics from 2007 to 2014. He introduced and for 13 years was the Physician Lead and Co-Chair of the SOGC MOREOB Program at Mount Sinai Hospital. 

Dr. Seaward received his medical degree from the University of the Witwatersrand, South Africa, and went on to complete a Master of Medicine degree at Wits. He received specialty certification in Obstetrics and Gynecology from the Colleges of Medicine of South Africa and the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada. He was awarded the L. van Dongen Medal for the FCOG(SA) part one. He completed a two-year fellowship in Maternal-Fetal Medicine at the University of Toronto. He holds a Master of Science degree in Clinical Epidemiology (University of Toronto) and a Master of Science Degree in Quality Improvement and Patient Safety (University of Toronto).

Dr. Seaward’s current areas of clinical expertise and interest are in minimally invasive fetal therapy and Obstetric ultrasound. Additionally he has a major focus in QI and patient safety as it relates to Obstetrics. He has received numerous research and teaching awards as well as a Ministry of Health Scholarship to complete the Advanced Health Leadership Program through the University of Toronto’s Rotman School of Management.
