Health Research Methods Course draws international audience of learners

Dr. Andrea Simpson and Dr. John Snelgrove

The Department’s annual Health Research Methods Course recently drew an audience of roughly 90 attendees that included not only our own faculty and trainees, but also learners and doctors from all around the world.

Held virtually from Oct. 11 to Oct. 13, the course was coordinated by assistant professors Dr. Andrea Simpson and Dr. John Snelgrove and featured presentations from our faculty on a broad range of health research topics.

Originally developed by our incoming Chair Dr. Kellie Murphy, the annual course has now been running since 2007.

“John and I started coordinating the course during the pandemic so this was our fourth year offering it on a virtual platform, which has allowed for inclusion of learners from other schools both nationally and internationally — an unintended but positive result of the pandemic,” Simpson said.

“The agenda includes lectures on a broad range of health research topics, and learners often find it helpful in planning their own research projects or exploring other methods that they are less familiar with. We are also able to showcase the broad range of researchers and research expertise in the departments of ob-gyn and paediatrics at U of T.”

In addition to presentations from Murphy, Snelgrove, and Simpson, the conference also featured sessions delivered by faculty members and fellows in our Department including Dr. Lilian Gien, Dr. Yada Kunpalin, Dr. Noor Ladhani, Dr. Alysha NensiDr. Evan Tannenbaum, and Dr. Rebecca Zur.
