Dr. Cindy Maxwell presented with her award

Dr. Cindy Maxwell presented with her awardLast month, Dr. Cindy Maxwell, Associate Professor with the Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology, received an award for her dedication to one of our department's fellowship programs. The award - which was presented at the Post MD Education Appreciation event by Dr. Salvatore Spadafora, Vice Dean of Postgraduate Medical Education at the University of Toronto - was in recognition of Dr. Maxwell's contributions and commitment to Postgraduate Medical Education at the university.

The Maternal-Fetal Medicine (MFM) Fellowship Program was led by Dr. Maxwell for almost ten years, beginning in 2009. During her time as program director, Dr. Maxwell oversaw the training of over 100 national and international fellows. She also oversaw many elective trainees from other MFM fellowship programs; subspecialty residents in paediatrics, internal medicine and ObGyn; as well as undergraduate students and observers.

Dr. Maxwell, who completed her medical and residency training at Harvard University before finishing her postgraduate education with the MFM fellowship at UofT, has been on staff at Mount Sinai Hospital since 2004. She was appointed the head of the Mount Sinai MFM Division in 2015 based on her outstanding clinical and academic performance.

Dr. Mathew Sermer, Chief of Obstetrics and Gynaecology at Mount Sinai, believes that the award was most deserved. "Dr. Maxwell solidified this fellowship program as a nationally and internationally recognized program of excellence. She demonstrated exceptional leadership qualities and was responsible for the exemplary standing of this program. as determined by the Royal College accreditation process."

Dr. Maxwell continues to assist the newest trainees in ObGyn at Mount Sinai and as an Associate Professor with UofT.
